National Micropigmentation Awards

Why choose Rebecca Brown for scalp micropigmentation?

Rebecca began her professional micropigmentation career in 2011, motivated by the opportunity to help people whose appearance and confidence had been affected by alopecia, cancer treatment and other forms of hair loss.

She developed her skills through work with leading clinics across Lancashire and Greater Manchester while building Permanent Perfection into the private clinic it is today. Rebecca has since completed thousands of micropigmentation treatments.

Years before completing her initial SMP training in July 2021, Rebecca was already creating realistic digital-machine eyebrow hairstrokes and learning how pigment heals in different skin types. That experience now informs how she reconstructs receded hairlines, connects SMP with retained hair and creates the appearance of natural follicles across a shaved scalp.

From realistic eyebrow hairstrokes to scalp micropigmentation

Natural-looking hair cannot be created from a standard pattern. Hair thickness, spacing and direction differ between clients, so every treatment must be designed around the person receiving it.

Rebecca explains: “To create realistic-looking hair, whether for brows or SMP, you need to understand how real hair grows. Thickness, spacing and placement vary considerably from one person to another, so the work has to be based on the individual.”

Rebecca applies that judgement to create SMP that belongs with the client’s remaining hair, features, skin and preferred style rather than looking like the same treatment repeated on different people.

A scalp micropigmentation plan built around your result

Rebecca begins by understanding what you want to change, how you currently wear your hair and the finished appearance you want to achieve. She then assesses your hair loss, remaining hair, scalp and the style you are prepared to maintain.

For some clients, density SMP can strengthen the appearance of retained hair without requiring a completely shaved style. For others, extensive hair loss means a shorter shaved result will create a far stronger and more natural-looking transformation.

Rebecca explains: “It can be hard for people to let go of their remaining length if they have never shaved before. My job is to weigh up what will suit their needs and what they are prepared to commit to. If I did not think density work would improve the overall appearance, I would be honest.”

You will leave your consultation knowing the treatment Rebecca recommends, the appearance she believes she can create, the number of sessions required and the complete price.

Damion’s full-head SMP result

Damion wanted a natural full-head result and reliable support throughout his treatment. Rebecca remained in contact between sessions, checked that everything was healing correctly and refined the treatment as the result developed.

“The communication was great. I got reminder texts a couple of days before my appointment, and Rebecca kept in touch between sessions to ensure everything was healing correctly and I was happy with the progress.”

“She took the time to go over any worries or questions I had, giving solid advice and making sure we were on the exact same page. She just instantly gets what you’re looking for, and her attention to detail is unbelievable. Absolute perfection from start to finish.” — Damion

How Rebecca designs a natural SMP hairline

The position and shape of an SMP hairline affect the balance of the whole face. Rebecca considers the client’s age, facial structure, ethnicity, remaining hair and indications of where the original hairline sat before marking the proposed design.

Many clients can remember their former hairline clearly. Rebecca uses that knowledge alongside the natural transition between the face and scalp to create a position that looks appropriate for the individual.

Rebecca explains: “Most people can remember exactly how their hairline used to look, and that can provide an important guide. When you look closely, there are also signs of where the facial skin finishes and the scalp begins. Going against those natural guides can make a hairline look wrong for that client.”

This individual design process allows Rebecca to restore definition and balance without producing a hairline that looks imposed or artificial.

Liam’s restored SMP hairline

Liam had lost the hair at both sides of his frontal hairline while retaining greater coverage through the centre. Rebecca advised him to wear the remaining hair slightly shorter so the SMP could connect the front and temples convincingly.

The finished treatment rebuilt the missing side areas and blended them with Liam’s retained hair, creating a stronger and more balanced hairline.

“Rebecca gives you advice about any concerns you may have. She knows exactly what the customer wants. It’s perfection—outstanding.” — Liam

Planning SMP pigment for a natural healed result

Freshly applied pigment looks stronger than the colour a client will live with after healing. Rebecca plans every treatment around that settled result.

The pigment must complement the client’s skin tone, natural root colour and remaining hair. Rebecca also builds coverage consistently across the treatment area so that one section does not appear heavier or darker than another.

Rebecca explains: “You need to allow for how much the pigment will fade and soften once healed. The colour has to blend with the client’s skin tone and remaining hair, and the work has to remain consistent so the finished result looks natural.”

Colour, impression size and density are developed gradually across the sessions. This creates the soft, even finish needed for SMP to resemble natural shaved follicles rather than obvious pigment.

Women’s scalp micropigmentation: Janet’s result

Janet had lived with thinning hair for four years following chemotherapy. She carefully arranged her hair to cover the sparse areas, but normal movement during the day could reveal the lighter scalp beneath.

Rebecca used women’s SMP to reduce the contrast between Janet’s natural roots and the visible scalp. The added depth made the hair appear fuller while allowing Janet to retain her existing length and style.

Rebecca matched the natural root rather than the coloured lengths. This allows the SMP to continue blending if Janet changes her hair colour or allows it to grey naturally.

Rebecca explains: “Janet had spent years arranging her hair to hide the thinning. I knew the treatment could take away much of the worry about her hair moving and revealing those sparse areas.”

“I feel so much more confident knowing that my hair looks fuller and the bald patches on my scalp are no longer visible. I had worried about my hair loss for four years following chemo treatment, and I can now move on.” — Janet

Scalp micropigmentation for hair-transplant scars: Ben’s result

Ben had achieved a strong hair-transplant result, but the donor areas remained visible when his hair was worn at his preferred short length.

Scar tissue can hold pigment differently from the surrounding scalp, so Rebecca adjusted the colour and coverage to soften the contrast without creating two obvious treated strips. The completed SMP blended the donor areas into Ben’s surrounding shaved hair.

Rebecca explains: “Ben had achieved a great transplant result, but the harvested areas were letting it down. At the length and style he wanted to wear, those patches were obvious. The SMP disguised them and blended them with his natural hair.”

“Becky is superb and clearly highly qualified in the field. The results far exceed my already high expectations and I can’t recommend her enough.” — Ben

Full-head scalp micropigmentation: Paul’s experience

Paul had worn his head shaved for years and had considered SMP for almost two years before proceeding. Because he could no longer clearly identify the position of his original hairline, its reconstruction required careful design.

Rebecca marked a position and shape that suited Paul’s face and allowed him to see the proposed hairline before treatment began.

Rebecca explains: “Paul had shaved his head for years and was not entirely sure where his natural hairline should sit. Once I marked it out, he could immediately see how restoring it would change his appearance.”

Rebecca then created a complete shaved-head result that restored the appearance of a defined hairline and even follicle coverage across the scalp.

“I put my full trust in Rebecca. Hands down, best thing I ever did. It turned out better than I could ever imagine and looked so natural.” — Paul

Density scalp micropigmentation: David’s result

David retained good hair length and coverage, but even thinning through the crown allowed the lighter scalp to show beneath it.

Because he still had sufficient natural hair across the area, Rebecca used density SMP to reduce the contrast between the hair and scalp. This gave the crown a fuller appearance without requiring David to adopt a completely shaved style.

Rebecca explains: “Because the thinning was even across that area rather than one obvious bald patch, I knew density SMP could work well and blend with his retained hair.”

David completed three sessions and told only three people that he was having the treatment.

“I’m really pleased with the results. The best compliment I got was at work when someone said I had a good head of hair. I nearly spat my coffee out.” — David

Why Marlon returned to Rebecca for his SMP refresh

Several years after Marlon’s original treatment, a practitioner in his own town offered to complete his SMP top-up free of charge.

Marlon chose to return to Permanent Perfection and pay Rebecca to refresh the treatment because he trusted her to retain the soft, natural finish he wanted.

“I’d rather pay and come to Rebecca, as I can rely on her to give me the natural results I want.” — Marlon

Lee’s complete scalp micropigmentation transformation

At 42, Lee had extensive frontal recession and crown thinning but had retained his hair at a long length. He regularly wore a cap and used the remaining hair to conceal how far the hair loss had progressed.

Creating the strongest result meant replacing the increasingly difficult concealment with a deliberate shaved style and a complete, defined hairline. Lee trusted Rebecca to remove the remaining length and redesign his appearance around a natural full-head SMP result.

Why Rebecca built Lee’s result over four sessions

Rebecca explains: “Lee was an amazing challenge. He had a very receding hairline but had kept his hair long and used a cap to disguise how much it had receded. He trusted me to shave it and bring back his hairline. It was going to be a big change, so he needed the reassurance that he was going to love the outcome.”

The first session established the agreed hairline and foundation. Once that had healed, Rebecca increased the density and developed the coverage across the scalp. The third session brought the complete result together, while the fourth allowed her to make the final refinements.

Building the treatment progressively gave Lee time to adjust to his new appearance while Rebecca controlled the density, balance and finish at every stage.

Lee’s completed SMP result

Lee’s finished SMP replaced the appearance of frontal recession and crown thinning with a clean shaved style and complete hairline. Instead of looking as though he had shaved because he was losing his hair, he now had the appearance of a full head of hair deliberately worn short.

“After the third session I was like, wow—it looked awesome. I couldn’t believe it. Yes, I was bald, but I had a full hairline. It looked like I’d shaved my head, but not because I was going bald. I’m over the moon with the result and can’t wait to go out without my cap.” — Lee

Rebecca explains: “I was very proud of the result and of how much confidence it gave Lee. He no longer had to worry about constantly wearing a hat.”
