Laser Tattoo Removal

You don’t have to be stuck with a tattoo you don’t love. Read here for a guide to laser tattoo removal to find out if it’s the right option for you.

Some people adorn their bodies with ink and happily never look back. However, others might experience a bit of remorse down the road. According to one UK study, around 78% of people with tattoos regret at least one of them.

If you’re in that position, you might think all is lost. After all, tattoos are forever, right?

Not quite! With laser tattoo removal, you can safely, gently, and effectively eliminate the ink from your skin. This is one of our most popular services at Permanent Perfection Aesthetics, and we’re excited to share more about it today.

What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?

There are many reasons you may want to remove tattoo ink, and they range from personal to professional. For instance, you might find that your significant other would prefer to not look at another’s initials on your forearm. Or, you may work for an employer that doesn’t allow visible tattoos at work.

Years ago, if you had a tattoo you needed to get rid of, you wouldn’t have many options. The treatments that were available came with a high risk of burning or scarring, which meant the process was both uncomfortable and ineffective.

However, modern technology has made getting rid of your tattoos much easier.

With laser tattoo removal, we can remove unwanted ink using an ND YAG Q Switched Laser. This is a Grade 4 medical laser that’s powerful enough to get the job done but won’t damage your skin. It’s manufactured by an internationally renowned company called All White Laser (AW3), which is also known as The King of Lasers.

All of our technicians are directly certified by AW3. In addition, we take great care to make sure we service and maintain our machines per the manufacturer’s stringent guidelines. We take your safety and cleanliness seriously and ensure clinic is kept sterile and high-performing.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how this process works.

Initial Consultation

Before removing a tattoo, we’ll ask you to come into our clinic for an initial consultation. This allows us to learn more about your needs and expectations as well as share how the treatment works.

At this visit, we’ll also perform a quick skin analysis using a system the Fitzpatrick scale. This scale classifies skin types from I to VI based on a person’s response when exposed to UV light. Type I skin always burns when exposed to UV rays, while Type VI skin rarely burns.

We’ll discuss how each tattoo removal session will work, and what you can expect each time you come into our clinic. We’ll also perform a patch test to see how your skin responds to our laser.

If you have any questions about how the treatment works, be sure to ask them at this consultation. We’re happy to answer your enquiries and want to make sure you’re completely comfortable before we move forward together.

Treatment

At your sessions, we’ll use our laser to isolate and target the treatment area only. This creates a sensation known as a photo-acoustic shock right at the spot. The shock shatters the ink into tiny fragments.

Once the laser has broken up the ink particles, your body’s lymphatic system filters out and eliminates the tiny fragments. While one laser session might be enough to fade certain tattoos, most people need multiple sessions to remove theirs completely.

The number of sessions you need will depend on several factors, including the age and size of your tattoo, the colour of the ink used, and its position on your body. Though it might sound counterintuitive, darker ink is often easier to remove than lighter colours!

We’ll be clear about the duration of your treatment from the very beginning, so you’re always aware of the timeline. Some clients find that it takes up to 10 sessions to achieve their desired outcome.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Post-Treatment

Most of our patients see results after just the first treatment!

After each session, your body will naturally regenerate the affected skin. While most clients find that the tattoo removal recovery period is short, your technician will thoroughly discuss all of your after-care steps to make sure you know how to take care of your skin at home.
